I have uninstalled (FOOLISHLY!) Delphi XE and attempted to install Delphi Community edition 10.3.3 on a Win 10 laptop. However, upon completion of the install, a message informs me that the bds.exe file failed to execute and the "create process failed: Code 2".
Consequently, I cannot locate the bds.exe file in the appropriate folder (c:\Program Files\x86\Embarcadero\Studio\20\bin\
I've tried deactivating my antivirus but the problem persists.
Any thoughts on a solution to this would be greatly appreciated.
Looking at the problems with Delphi on this forum indicates there are too many inherent problems with the software.Perhaps a switch to Lazarus would be an advantage.
Funny you should say that.
I am evaluating a port of a Delphi program on Lazarus.
So far at best it runs in double the time on Lazarus. Lots of trig and matrix operations...
One function that had a lot of 2d dynamic array updates (including incremental setlengths) was taking 48 secs compared to 3 under Delphi.
Fixed it by setting all dynamic arrays to whatever max size they could be and maintaining counters and setting them to the counted size at end.... It is not a complex function. It did improve the Delphi version too but as it was only called once to read some data, 3.x secs down to 2.x didn't matter. Still taking 6 or 7 secs in Lazarus...
