Can you help clarify the registration bump issue now? Will customers without an active subscription be able to get install bumps when they need one? The previous post by Atanas
was not clear on this issue.
If you need to be on maintenance to get bumps then the RAD studio about page should have in size 100 font "NOTE: once purchased you will be required to pay $500 a year for renewals. If you do not renew you may not be able to continue using the product."
Make it very clear once and for all what the policy is.
"Will customers without an active subscription be able to get install bumps when they need one?"
If you require a registration bump, please contact your Embarcadero sales representative for assistance.
Thanks for the response. What if I need a bump for a version that is out of maintenance? eg I have no subscription and need to activate an old version of Delphi? Do I then have to find and ring a random reseller and ask them for a bump?
"What if I need a bump for a version that is out of maintenance? eg I have no subscription and need to activate an old version of Delphi? "
>>> In that case, we recommend that you contact either Embarcadero sales or the reseller partner, depending on who you usually work with.
OK, thanks. You may not be aware the annoyance getting clarifications from Idera on this matter has been. One suggestion would be to change the email content support sends non subscription bump requests. Currently they just say a bump is not possible and close the case. What they need to say is "Sorry, if you are not an active subscription you must now email firstname.lastname@example.org for renewals. We apologize for this inconvenience". Or better yet, get them to CC sales in the reply?
There was talk about overhauling the bump system over the summer. Any chance of dumping this archaic system and implementing self bumping? Or self handling of installs. Give each user 5 concurrent installs. Allow them to "deregister" an install when moving to a new PC or reinstalling. That way support or sales does not need to be bothered and the bump process is instant. This is how Office 365 installs are handled. Copy their system.
Thank you! We are changing it already. We hope that Update Subscription provides plenty of value for people to keep current, so we have even fewer of these issues.
