Audience: Android Developers using C++Builder and/or Delphi planning to release Android Apps
As you’re probably aware, starting August 1st, 2019, applications in the Google Play Store must support 64-bit. We are working to provide 64-bit Android support in RAD Studio, but in the meantime, Google’s Play Store team is considering extensions to the 64-bit requirement for our Delphi and C++Builder customers on an app-by-app basis (see steps below).
To ensure your C++Builder or Delphi Android 32-bit application is accepted into the Play Store, you will need to submit a request for an extension after following the regular Google Play Store publishing steps in the Console.
Note: Starting August 1st, 2019, only app updates to existing Android 32-bit applications will be considered for an extension by the Google Play Store team, not new 32-bit Android applications. For new Android 32-bit applications, it’s recommended that you submit them as soon as possible and start asking for an extension now, so that you are not impacted by the deadline come August 1st.
How to request an extension:
Note: Embarcadero customers can submit extension requests for Android 32-bit app updates to existing Google Play Store applications until October 1st, 2019. Once a request has been granted, customers can keep submitting updates to existing apps until August 2020.
what files should be attached?
For me, I attached a photo of both tablet and hand phone running the front page of my application with the app title, still waiting for the extension feedback.
Has the Play Store team replied to your request for an extension? I know that they usually reply with some questions regarding the request. I know that a number of Delphi and C++Builder customers have already had their request for an extension approved. I am sure that the Google Play Store team is very busy and will get back to you soon.
They are rather courious and it seems they analyse each case independently - like it wouldn't be any agreement between Embarcader & Google:
"After consulting with our team, we have a few more questions about your request for 64-bit extension:
After answering for those questions - still again:
"How long do you think it will take to upload 64 bits after post-delphi release?"
I hope - I will receive final (positive) decision soon.
We worked closely with the Google Play Store team on the extension for our customers. These are the standard set of questions that they ask anyone requesting an extension request.
We received similar questions. Our answer to question 3 was "2-3 months after Embarcadero releases a 64-bit capable C++ compiler for Android".
However, we received a followup email from Google Play Developer Support stating "For me to be able to escalate your request to the appropriate team, I would need an estimated date of compliance."
Please advise how to answer this question in order to secure an extension to the 64-bit deadline.
If it assists, our issue number is 5-2607000027027.
