If you have tried VS Code in the past but were disappointed because of speed and stability, you may want to have a second look now. On May 3, Sydney Smith from the PowerShell team has announced a major overhaul and rewrite of the PowerShell extensions.

Specifically, the core pipeline execution has been reinvented, and editor services such as IntelliSense and suggestions now run in a separate synchronous thread for more speed and less blocks and race conditions.

On Windows, the rock-solid PowerShell ISE will continue to be available and has many fans. On other platforms, or for more sophisticated or multi-language-projects, now is the time to give VS Code the second chance if you initially sorted it out.
