I installed SQL BI trial and attempted to point it to a few instances. So far I have had very little luck. I have several SSRS instances on stand alone servers (no SQL, the database is located remotely) and a couple SSAS servers on a cluster that will not connect. No matter what I do, SQL BI tells me that it cannot connect (the exact SSRS error is below).
What am I missing? The server works with the credential supplied when accessed outside of SQL BI Manager.
The following SQL exception occurred while connecting to SQL instance EAFCCA03: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 – Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
Thank you for the inquiry, David. The initial release of BI Manager will monitor SSAS, SSRS, and SSIS when they are associated with a SQL Server instance. The monitoring of stand alone services is planned for the release scheduled at the end of this year. In the interim it is possible to monitor the services by installing SQL Express on the same machine as the BI services. When installing, select the option to associate the BI service name to the SQL Express instance rather than giving SQL Express its own instance name.
I hope this helps and please let me know if you would like additional information.
