KB: Can I connect to databases in the cloud?

Some free database tools can connect (provisional) to database instances hosted in the cloud.

For example, some free database tools can connect (provisional) to SQL Server instances on Amazon and Microsoft Azure via a DNS address and an IP address.

This table lists the free database tools and whether they can connect (provisional) to SQL Server instances on Amazon and Microsoft Azure:

  • Amazon EC2: Amazon Elastic Cloud Compute (EC2) with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft SQL Server
  • Amazon RDS: Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) with Microsoft SQL Server
  • Azure VM: Microsoft Azure Virtual Machine (VM) with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft SQL Server
  • Azure SQL DB: Microsoft Azure SQL Database
