KB: How to manually add a free tool to the Tools menu of SQL Server Management Studio 2016?

To manually add a free tool to the Tools menu of SQL Server Management Studio 2016:

  1. In SQL Server Management Studio 2016, select “Tools > External Tools...” from the main menu.
  2. In the “External Tools” dialog, select the “Add” button.
  3. In the “Title:” text-box, enter a meaningful title (e.g., “IDERA SQL Check”).
  4. On the right side of the “Command” text-box, select the “...” button.
  5. In the “Open File” dialog, navigate to the relevant executable file (e.g., “C:\Program Files\Idera\SQL Check\Idera.SQL.Check.exe”) and select the “Open” button.
  6. In the “External Tools” dialog, select the “OK” button.
