KB: How to determine the version of an installed free tool?

To determine the version of an installed free tool:

via Windows File Explorer:

  1. Navigate to the relevant executable file in the Program Files directory (e.g. C:\Program Files\Idera\SQL Check).
  2. Right-click on the executable file, and select Properties.
  3. In the Properties dialog, select the Details tab.
  4. In the Details tab, refer to the Product version and the Copyright entries (i.e. for SQL Check, “3.6.0.924” and “Copyright © 2015”, respectively).

via Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features:

  1. Select “Windows Desktop > Start”.
  2. In the Start menu, type “appwiz.cpl” or “Programs and Features”, and select the “appwiz.cpl” or “Programs and Features” entry.
  3. In the “Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features” window, locate the relevant free tool (e.g. “Idera SQL Check 64-bit”).
  4. Refer to the “Version” entry (i.e. for SQL Check, “3.6.0.924”).
