Before I hit Idera Support with an annoying ticket of "but it's slow" I thought I'd run this past everyone.
My long running install of v10.0 was annoyingly slow when my team would navigate around the tree on the left. Notably as we'd have to scroll to the bottom of our 350 servers everything would just pause while the tree refreshed. Like pause long enough to be a legit annoyance.
This week I finally upgraded to 10.2.3 and this issue is persisting.
Do other people encounter this? If so--did anyone figure out how to fix it? Are there any real world recommendation for workstation specifications for monitoring this many servers?
Hi Daniel K and andre.porter. Thanks for all your comments on this. I was out of the office and didn't catch these until now.
This is pretty troubling to hear that the slowness might persist after the upgrade and it seems related to the size of the repository/number of servers being monitored.
I haven't upgraded yet but am planning to early next week. One one hand I'd kind of like to not upgrade if this isn't getting fixed. However, at a certain point any ticket to support starts getting answered with a "please upgrade and see if things are resolved".
I'll report back after I upgraded. I really hate changing the code of a vendor product though...
And I hope that someone from Idera is monitoring this thread. It seems like there's a lot of leg work that's been done that would be valuable for them to have.
Some of the suggestions are available through Tech Support as Buddy Drops and will be rolled into the product in the next full release.
What's the best way to get these buddy drops so I can get them applied as part of my upgrade next week?
Open a case with Tech Support and tell them you are planning to upgrade and want to apply any known fixes. They will advise in what you need.
Will do. Thanks!
I'm having big problems with my upgrade to 10.3.1 and have had no response from support on this issue. The ticket number I've been using is 00635994 if that helps you.
In a nutshell the upgrade did appear to fix some of my slowness however we realized over a day or two that the alerts are not coming to us in a timely manner. We noticed it first as an absence of snapshots in the console. I restart of services will get us snapshots but they start coming to us about 30 minutes behind real time and get worse from there. I need to restart services frequently to survive.
I have been sending information to support, our account rep and a customer success agent all day but haven't heard anything. I think a big clue to all of this is in the management service logs where there are a ton of messages that say "Memory Management in alertWriterQueue - performing enqueue and the count is 1865" with that last number steadily growing until I restart the servic.
I'm not sure if you have access to the support inbox but there's a lot to go on there.
If you can help out it would be much appreciated.
