SQL Admin Toolset - Manage Server Groups

Is there a way in the ‘Manage Server Groups’ to import the list of registered servers from SSMS?

    QUESTION:
How does SQL admin toolset handle server group registrations as defined in SQL Server Management Studio or Enterprise Manager?

    SOLUTION:

Upon its initial launch, SQL admin toolset looks for the file ServerGroups.xml. This file can be located at one of the following locations:

Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows 2003
    – C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Idera\SQL admin toolset

    Windows 7, Windows 2008, Windows 2008 R2
    – C:\ProgramData\Idera\SQL admin toolset

If this file does not exist when launched, the SQL admin toolset will import the logged in user’s server groups from Enterprise Manager and/or SQL Server Management Studio installed on the same machine. Once this file exists, SQL admin toolset will not perform additional imports.

If you would like to have SQL admin toolset re-import your server group registrations from Enterprise Manager and SQL Server Management Studio, you can do so by closing all instances of the toolset, deleting ServerGroups.xml from the All Users application data folder, and re-launching the SQL admin toolset.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please use caution when deleting ServerGroups.xml as this process will also delete all manually defined server groups.

  • Wonderful tip! That worked for me.
    Thank you.
