Snowflake Magic! with Aqua Data Studio

Howdy, y'all!

Happy Thursday!

Today we will be exploring the exciting world of Cloud Data warehouses and my personal favorite, Snowflake from snowflake computing - http://www.snowflakecomputing.com.

We shall learn how to connect to Snowflake with Aqua Data Studio, with limited support.

Full Support - Coming soon!

Requirements:

  1. Copy of Aqua Data Studio - which can be downloaded here:

    Aqua Data Studio Free Trial

  2. Sign up for a free Snowflake trial account here:

    Snowflake Trial

  3. Once you have signed up and activated your Snowflake account, navigate to the main home screen and click on the following link to download and configure the JDBC driver:

Install and configure Snowflake JDBC driver

Setup:

  1. Now let us configure our JDBC Connection with the Snowflake connection string information.

It will usually be something like this:

    jdbc:snowflake://<account_name>.snowflakecomputing.com/?<connection_params>

Replace the account name with your actual server name.

  2.  Make sure you use the latest Driver Class Name convention as shown below:

    net.snowflake.client.jdbc.SnowflakeDriver

  3. Next in Aqua Data Studio, head over to the Register a Server option, and choose JDBC.

The Properties window must resemble the one shown below, except for the connection string and user name and password.

  4. Click Test Connection to validate it.

  5.  Now under the Server --> Expand the Database --> Snowflake_Sample_Data --> Under Schema --> TPCH_SF_10 --> Issue the following query in the Query Analyzer:

    select * from "SNOWFLAKE_SAMPLE_DATA"."TPCH_SF10"."REGION" limit 10
  6. The result set will be displayed below:

Congratulations! Coming soon we will have full native support for Snowflake in Aqua Data Studio.
