I found xp_ss_restorelast is a very useful stored procedure to use, IF it supports a tripped backup files or DIFF backup without restore policy.
We have a complicated environment and need to "masking" sensitive data before making a backup in some cases. For this we have our own SQL Agent job with a customized script.
XP_SS_restorelast actually is working well without a restore policy, BUT only with a single SAFE backup file.
I don't understand why it does not support a stripped backup files?
Make matters worse, there is no documentation about this, so I had a hard time figuring out why it doesn't work.
Anywyay, i hope it also supports DIFF backup.
