It's blank on my system and most of my work servers; I'm assuming this is for non volume licensed installations.

(Get-WmiObject -Class win32_operatingsystem).SerialNumber
Manohar's snipit works, but the topic power tip does not.
(Get-WmiObject -Class win32_operatingsystem).SerialNumber does not return a license key. It returns a Serial Number... ;-) The serial number can not be used for product activation
