Currently the KB article about SNMP traps really (unless i’m misreading or looking at an old version) provides a rather “blunt instrument” for external checks resulting only in Critical warnings and not much for recovery. Is there more documentaion on setting warns or recoverys based on SNMP? There was another note about requsting more documentation on external checks is there more detailed information or examples on how to best put this together? Is more “directly” handling of SNMP traps on the horizion for features?
Have you reviewed the External Check section in the Advanced Monitors page of docs?
Due to the unpredictability of the content of traps originating from different sources, a client’s script that receives and parses the traps can differ wildly; however, we provide guidance where possible.
I did but other than the sample script it indicates you needed to contact support so I wasn’t sure if there were other non-public documentation.
We recommend clients to contact Support because configuring up.time to receive SNMP traps often requires assistance. There is work being done to bundle a SNMP trap Perl script in the Plugin .upk format for easier deployment. Â When it is available, it will appear in http://the-grid.uptimesoftware.com.
